Module 1 Discussion Forum
In a post below, respond to the following prompt, which assesses course outcome 4 and module learning objective 2. Then, you must respond to one of your classmates' posts. After you post a response, you will be able to see other responses. You are not required to post more than one peer response post, but feel free to respond to additional posts and engage with your classmates.
Your first post is due on Monday of Week 2 of the course by 11:59 pm. Your response to another student is due on Wednesday of Week 2 of the course by 11:59 pm.
Your response should be at least 350 words long. This includes responses to other students' posts. A simple “I agree” or “Yes” or “LOL” will not count. Please think about the questions and your peers' responses and reply thoughtfully and courteously, according to netiquette rules. Use good English grammar, correct punctuation, and complete sentences. While the posts will mostly be judged by their thoughtfulness and completeness, I reserve the right to take off points for grammatical errors, especially if they interfere with the clarity of the post.
Prompt
Think about a moment when you witnessed someone putting forth an argument or a compelling idea. You may have heard someone trying to convince or explain something to someone else, either in person or online. You might have read an exciting news article or editorial. You may have listened to a news clip or a podcast. One of your teachers may have said something that engaged you. Describe the moment and the idea that captured you. Tell whether you reacted favorably or unfavorably to the idea. Then analyze the argument: Which conventions of argument did the speaker use? Did the speaker state the main ideas clearly? Did the speaker use good reasons and evidence to support the main ideas? Can you recognize how the speaker may have used pathos, ethos, or logos?
